Kennet Valley Resource Base

The Resource Base at  Kennet Valley Primary School was opened in September 2024. This unit provides a specialist education for 6 children (12 from September 2025) with diagnosed Special Educational Needs, where the primary need is Autism and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).

The curriculum at the Kennet Valley Primary Resource Base is designed to meet the children’s SEMH needs as well as their academic needs.

Kennet Valley Vision and Values

As part of Kennet Valley Primary School, our vision and values are the same.

Our Vision

At Kennet Valley Primary School, we aim to nurture the whole child. Together, we will inspire them to fulfil their academic, social and creative potential.

Our Mission

Every pupil will experience high quality teaching within an interesting, stimulating and engaging curriculum. This will be enhanced by our learning environment which is inclusive, safe and aspirational both within and beyond the classroom and school.

We want pupils to:

  • Become curious, confident and enthusiastic learners;
  • Explore and develop their creative and sporting talents, benefitting from enriching experiences;
  • Develop effective social skills and the ability to think independently;
  • Learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including physical and emotional well-being;
  • Benefit from the whole school community ethos where all children, staff, parents and governors work together in the interests of every child.

Our Values:

  • Respect for ourselves and each other;
  • Caring for all;
  • Passion for learning;
  • Pride in our school.

We recognise that for some children, including those children with a place in the Kennet Valley Resource Base, there are additional challenges to overcome in order for them to be able to achieve their potential.

Our vision for the unit builds on the vision above, where those children who attend the unit learn in an environment more appropriate to their needs, with a stronger focus on a curriculum that will develop the children’s self-esteem and sense of self-worth.  To achieve this, there will be a daily emphasis on the PHSE curriculum (Personal, Health and Social), daily practice of social skills and emotional regulation and many and varied nurturing opportunities.

Our key aim is that the Resource Base offers a safe learning space for children where they can get support with their feelings and behaviour. We support the children to develop positive strategies to manage their emotions.
